Exploring the Majestic Hill Station of Munnar

Munnar, is a tranquil and serene hill station nestled in the heart of the Western Ghats mountain range in God's own country, Kerala, India. More than being one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the country, Munnar is a magical experience awaiting to be explored, with its undulating hills cloaked in emerald greenery, mist-kissed valleys, sprawling tea plantations, cascading waterfalls and crisp mountain air.
The name Munnar means "Three Rivers", referring to the confluence of the Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala rivers. Once the summer resort of the British Raj elite, Munnar still retains its colonial charm through old bungalows, churches, and tea estates. It is also home to unique flora and fauna, including the Neelakurinji flower (which blooms once every 12 years) and the endangered Nilgiri Tahr.

One can immerse oneself in the fantastical realms while exploring the hidden gems of the land. Home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and the Neelakurinju – Eravikulam National Park is one of the major attraction of the hill station. Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India is also located here.

Mattupetty with its scenic storage masonary dam and beautiful lake that surrounds it is yet another attraction in Munnar. The diary farm run by the Indo-Swiss livestock Project is also located here (advance permission is required). Kundala Dam situated about 20 km from Munnar on the Munnar-Top Station mountain highway, offers a picturesque tourist spot to those looking for a quiet getaway. It is also said to be Asia’s First Arch Dam.

The velvety green tea plantations that lay across Munnar has become its identity. The Tea Museum has helped preserve and showcase the once wild land’s journey to today’s glory. The Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea is where the Museum is located.

Top Station, the highest point in Munnar accessible by road, offers a stunning panoramic view of the Western Ghats. Other attrations include Echo Point, Attukad Waterfalls, Anayirankal Dam, Pothamedu Viewpoint. Around 50 km from Munnar we get to see the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and the Marayoor Sandalwood Forest. Munnar holds within its depths a magical experience awaiting to be explored.
